Oil Paintings and Drawings by Clement Joe Simonnet
text by Alan Graham Dick 2017 LONDON
--At first we might be confused, concerned by the fact these new works do not conform to what we thought we knew. But gradually our eyes adjust to the light, and we see forms beginning to appear.
Drawings on paper, in ink, crayon, sometimes with washes of color. pink and blues, figures Come and go.
Images of women's heads, breaks in rhythm. Fast and slow. darkened light flashes. Lines that are sharp, lines that mender. smudges, blots, stains ...
Suddenly lightning strokes of black smears in black and gold.
the new works with oil paint on canvas are a chaos of forms. Nudes, furniture, flowers, birds, a cat, an airplane, a tree , a garden of earthly delights.
Drama as in life.
Chaos, as in life.
Darkness and light, as in life
the dream is over, the sleeper is now fully awake
Euphoria will have everything going it's own way or else it will give in. Meanwhile life, with all its complexities is trying to breath.
